At Monday’s Washington Parish Council meeting a somewhat unorthodox proclamation was made honoring the Robert Harrison Racing Team for winning the Top Gun drag racing competition on Wednesday, March 10, and then going on to win the big Ford vs. Chevy Dragster Class Competition on Sunday, March 14, at the Gulfport Dragway in Gulfport, Miss. The proclamation read “Washington Parish is home of many talented and exceptional citizens in all areas of capabilities …”

Robert Harrison Sr., driver, and the crew members — Selena Davis, Aaron Carter, Nathan Barber, Cole Wheat, Cort Wheat, Dustin Carter, B. J. Schilling, Matt and Maggie Delaune, Robby and Chrystal Paige, Chuck Williams, Deborah Rominger, Kenny and Amanda Myers, and Austin and Mallory Wilkes — are local citizens that won with a “Richard Stevens” dragster with a custom built LS 6.0 engine, beating out considerable competition with more expensive means.

Robert Harrison Jr., also a member of the racing team, was present with his father and other members of the racing team to accept the honor. Harrison Jr. also races a dragster in the junior class and seems set to fill the heavy shoes of his father.

Sponsors of the racing team are NAPA Auto Parts from Bogalusa, Best Buy Auto from Bogalusa, and Thigpen Concrete from Franklinton.

The proclamation went on to say “… our parish is always proud of our local citizens and businesses for their dedication, talent and hard work …”
