Pine’s baseball team made program history on Monday with the club’s first playoff road win after defeating North Caddo, 6-4, in the bi-district round of the Class 2A playoffs.

“I’ve got a gritty team this year,” Pine coach Blake Dillon said. “They were young to begin the season. They’re getting experience and we’re just now understanding what kind of team we have. The kids understand their roles, they’ve bought in and they work hard everyday. We’ve developed some great leadership over the course of the season.”

The Raiders came back from a 4-0 deficit to win.

Pine trailed 4-0 through two innings after North Caddo scored two runs in both the first and second inning. Pine cut the lead in half with two runs in the third. The Raiders trimmed the lead to 4-3 with a run in the fourth before taking the lead in the fifth with two more runs. The Raiders added an insurance run in the seventh in the win.

John Eric Self singled, tripled and drove in two runs.

Clint Miley doubled and scored a run.

Coby Sheridan singled and drove in a run.

Chris Strahan singled and scored a run.

Brandon Sprehe singled.

Nathan Adams tallied two runs, while Chase Cooper and Bryson Thomas both scored a run and Ethan Ryals drove in a run.

Cooper pitched a complete game in the win. Cooper did not allow a run after the second inning. Cooper allowed 10 hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Following the second inning, Cooper allowed just three hits over five shutout frames. Cooper needed just 79 pitches for the complete game.

“We know coming into every game that Chase is going to give us a good starting pitching performance and a chance to win,” Dillon said. “He’s got amazing stats on the season and we’ve talked all year to just make sure we make the routine plays and put some pressure on the other team and we’ll have a chance to win some playoff games.”

No. 17 Pine, which is 15-4, will play top-seeded Doyle (23-8) in the regional round. The teams will play a best-of-three series. The first two games will be Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. if necessary. All games are at Doyle.

The cost is $10 on Friday that includes both games. Saturday’s game is $7.

Doyle defeated No. 32 Oakdale (3-25), 8-0, in the bi-district round.

No. 16 North Caddo went 18-16 this year.
