Several locals advance to South State

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Caleb Mathews and Bowling Green School’s Aiden Hodges won an event each at the District 4AAA Meet on Thursday at Silliman Institute, while four locals across six events qualified for the South State Meet.

Hodges was victorious in the shot put with a distance of 41 feet. Amite School Center’s Dallas Fair was second at 38 feet, 9.5 inches.

Mattews captured the 300-meter hurdles in 48.58 seconds. Amite School Center’s Maddox Williams was runner-up at 49.19.

Hodges and Mathews also came in second in an event each.

Hodges was second for the discus with a throw of 110-5.75. Lamar Christan School’s Caimon Rahming won at 119-3.5.

Mathews took second in the 800 meters after clocking in at 2 minutes, 27 seconds. Lamar Christian School’s Peyton James was tops at 2:25.

The top four finishers from each event made it to the South State Meet. The South State is this week at Canton Academy. The field events are today, while the running events will take place on Saturday.

Bowling Green School’s Matthew Hicks and Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Nate Descant both made it to South State by coming in third place.

Hicks is headed to South State in the 110 hurdles with a time of 20.05. Rahming won in 19.15.

Descant made it in the triple jump at 34-11.75. Wayne Academy’s Daxton West won at 39-11.

Continuing with locals, Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Tucker Pittman and Ben’s Ford’s 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams were fifth.

Pittman was fifth in the 200 and triple jump.

He completed the 200 in 27.30, while teammate Jonah Holston came in eighth with a time of 31.29. Wayne Academy’s Blake Watson won the 200 in 25.40. Pittman triple jumped 33-1.75.

The Eagles ran the 4×100 in 53.66 and 4×200 in 1:48. Both teams featured Gage Adams, Holston, Mathews and Pittman. Columbia Academy won the two races in 48.40 and 1:39.

Bowling Green School’s Morgan Verrett was seventh for the 400 in 1:01. Watson won in 56.39.

Mathews came in seventh for the 100 in 13.03. Amite School Center’s Jesse Mellinger topped the event in 12.01.

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Gage Adams was 10th in the long jump with a distance of 13-10. West won at 19-5.25.

Lamar Christian School won the team title with 71 points in a close competition over Columbia Academy, which tallied 67 with seven teams posting points.

Wayne Academy was third with 50 points, followed by Amite School’s 40 and Ben’s Ford rounded out the top five with 17 points. Bowling Green School was sixth with 13 points.

In the girls, Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Avery Dantin was fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:51. Columbia Academy’s Charlee Brees Franks won in 5:51.

Ben’s Ford Christian School’s Delaney Perrette took sixth in the triple jump at 25-3.25. Columbia Academy’s Maddie Claire Sauls won at 29-7.

Perrette was eighth in the 200 with a time of 33.05. Wayne Academy’s Mallory Golden won in 29.90.

Ben’s Ford Christian School teammates Abby Descant and Ashlyn Dantin were ninth and 10th in the long jump with distances of 10-11.5 and 9-1.5. Columbia Academy’s Lizzie Sullivan topped the event at 15-8.5.

Ashlyn Dantin and teammate Olivia Norwood ran ninth and 10th in the 100 with times of 15.62 and 16.07. Sullivan won in 14.21.

Wayne Academy and Columbia Academy tied for best in the team competition with 82 points each, as six teams posted points.

Amite School Center was third at 52, followed by Lamar Christian School’s 30 and Laurel Christian School’s 18 to cap off the top five. Ben’s Ford Christian School was sixth with one point.
