The new bike trail at Bogue Chitto State Park near Franklinton will have its grand opening Saturday, one week after being initially delayed.

The event will feature activities all day long. The aim is to offer the premier mountain bike trail in the South, and the only one of its kind currently in the state of Louisiana.

From noon until 2 p.m., visitors can explore vendors and park partners.

At 12:30 p.m., there will be a complimentary lunch and beverages, while supplies last. At 2 p.m., there will be a ceremonial “log cutting” and grand opening.

Planned speakers include Toby Cortez of NORBA (Northshore Off-Road Bicycling Association), Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, State Sen. Beth Mizell, State Rep. Malinda White, District Attorney Warren Montgomery and Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas Jr.

The park is located at 17049 State Park Blvd. in Franklinton, just south of the town and between Louisiana Highway 25 and Louisiana Highway 16.
