Forecasted inclement weather has delayed the grand opening of new mountain bike trails, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 10, at Bogue Chitto State Park near Franklinton.

On its Facebook page, the Louisiana State Parks posted the following Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

“Due to the severe weather forecast this coming weekend the Bogue Chitto State Park Mountain Bike Trails Grand Opening is being postponed. A new date will be announced soon.”

The opening had been set for Saturday, with events throughout the day. A “log cutting” ceremony was set for 1 p.m. to officially mark the grand opening, and Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser was among the planned speakers.

As of Friday afternoon, the forecast for Saturday in Franklinton was calling for showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in New Orleans.

The NWS was also forecasting an 80-percent chance of precipitation, and rainfall between 0.75 inches and one inch.
