New Bogue Chitto State Park bike trail to open on Saturday

The new bike trail at Bogue Chitto State Park near Franklinton will have its grand opening Saturday.

The event will feature activities all day long. The aim is to offer the premier mountain bike trail in the South, and the only one of its kind currently in the state of Louisiana.

The grand opening will begin with a Q50 race (walk/run) starting at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m., there will be a “Boardwalk Nature Hike.”

From 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., visitors can explore local vendors and park partners. There will also be food sampling provided by local vendors, beginning at noon.

At 1 p.m. there will be the ceremonial “log cutting” to open the trail officially. Planned speakers include Toby Cortez of NORBA (Northshore Off-Road Bicycling Association), Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, State Sen. Beth Mizell, State Rep. Malinda White, and Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas Jr.

The day will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with a “Mega Zeph Mega Jam.”

The park is located at 17049 State Park Blvd. in Franklinton, just south of the town and between Louisiana Highway 25 and Louisiana Highway 16.
