FHS’s Brown is a double-event winner

Franklinton’s Caleb Brown won two events in the Cowboy Relays that took place at Jewel Sumner on Thursday.

Brown was victorious in the javelin and the long jump.

Brown threw the javelin 144 feet, 6 inches.

Athletes from Washington Parish occupied the top three spots in the javelin. Bogalusa’s Haikem Thompson and teammate Raheem Roberts were second and third with distances of 134-2 and 131-9. Keaton Catrett was ninth at 106-10.

Brown long jumped 19-7.5. Jewel Sumner’s Rodney Brown was second with a 19-5.5. Thompson was seventh at 16-11.5.

Bogalusa and Franklinton were the teams from Washington Parish in the meet.

Franklinton’s Christiun Martin was third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.2 seconds. Jewel Sumner’s Dominic Haney won the race in 40.35.

Five more local athletes were fourth, including Franklinton teammates Andrew Crain, Jakobie McCormick and Mason Freeman, along with Bogalusa teammates Kalik Foster and Roberts.

Crain was fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 5 minutes, 38 seconds. Teammate Aiden Walker took seventh at 6:34. West Feliciana’s Bryce Jarrell topped the event at 5:05.

McCormick was fourth in the high jump at 5-0. Jewel Sumner’s Colby Sloan cleared the 12-foot bar to win.

Freeman tallied a fourth-place finish in the shot put at 37-5. Bogalusa’s Foster, Franklinton’s James Slade and Bogalusa’s James Brice were ninth through 11th with distances of 33-9, 31-2 and 27-11. West Feliciana’s Adarius Franklin won at 41-3.

Foster took fourth in the discus with a throw of 99-7. Slade, Bogalusa’s Tony Harris and Franklinton’s Wyatt Lambert were sixth, ninth and 11th with throws of 95-10, 87-2 and 84-0.

Roberts was fourth in the triple jump at 38-8.

Franklinton’s 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams were sixth with times of 48.82 and 1:41. Both teams featured Timarion Pittman, Martin, Bryan Williams and Ahmod Pittman. Jewel Sumner won the 4×100 at 43.90, while West Feliciana captured the 4×200 at 1:32.

Franklinton’s McCormick and Crain were ninth and 10th in the 800 with times of 2:35 and 2:39. Jewel Sumner’s Silas Childress topped the event in 2:16.

Williams was 12th in the 200 at 26.72. West Feliciana’s Imani Coleman won in 22.81.

Williams and Pittman ran 14th and 18th in the 100 with times of 12.18 and 12.42. Jewel Sumner’s Richard Lee won in 10.69.

West Feliciana won the team competition with 166 points, as eight teams posted points.

Jewel Sumner was second with 152, followed by Kentwood’s 109, South Pike’s 46 and Franklinton rounded out the top five with 41.

Bogalusa was seventh with 22 points.
