Ruth Neal Platter, 90, passed away peacefully, Saturday morning March 20, 2021. She spent her last day laughing and enjoying her time with family.

Ruth was born on Feb. 8, 1931, in Sumrall, Miss. In her early years she lived in Boston, Mass. She later relocated to Bogalusa, where she became a faithful member of the First Church of God in Christ.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Meekins; her mother, Hattie Mask Johnson (Lee); father, Otis Johnson, and step-mother, Annie Johnson; her three sisters, Burtile Johnson, Lucille Samuels, and Dorothy Upshaw; and two brothers, Aaron Johnson and Willie Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her love and memories: three children, Lloyd Meekins, Brenda Meekins, and Paulette Coleman (Meekins); two sisters, Ketta Levy (Johnson) and Vita Johnson; four brothers, James Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Hardy Johnson and Charles Johnson; along with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

As years passed and times changed, one may find comfort in knowing no matter how long you may stay away you can always count on finding Ruth in her cozy chair in the kitchen.

Ruth will be remembered for her wittiness and candor. She had unconditional love in her heart and was loved among many. She will be truly missed.

A drive through viewing will be Sunday, March 28, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa.

The funeral service will be on Monday, March 29, at First Church of God in Christ at 11 a.m. with Bishop Howard E. Quillen, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Bogalusa Cemetery.
