Mt. Hermon teammates Williams, Quin are 2nd in meet at Jewel Sumner

Mt. Hermon School’s Amuriel Williams and Katherine Quin came in second place and several locals were top three in the Cowgirl Relays that took place at Jewel Sumner High School on March 12.

Williams ran the 400 meters in 1 minute, 8 seconds.

Teammate Bailey Fortenberry was fifth in 1:14. Walker’s Aneace Scott won in 1:04.

Quin was runner up for the 800 after running it in 2:50.

Franklinton’s Paulina Martinez was sixth with a time of 3:12. Walker’s Ava Pitarro won in 2:37.

Several athletes from Washington Parish were third, including Mt. Hermon School’s 4×200 relay team, Mt. Hermon School Shania Smith and Fortenberry and Franklinton’s Zoriea Gore.

Mt. Hermon’s 4×200 that featured Jumyrie Williams, Fortenberry, Quin and Williams ran the race in 2:01.

Franklinton ran the 4×200 in 2:07. The team had Trinity Bryant, Gore, Alexia Martin and Derranajuh Warren. Walker won in 1:49.

Smith was third in the shot put with a distance of 26-7.

Mt. Hermon School’s Ansley Knight, Varnado’s Jakyra Daggs and Franklinton’s Isabella Lambert were fourth, fifth and 12th at 24-6.75, 24-2.50 and 12-9.25. St. Helena College and Career Academy’s Khia Williams won at 29-11.75.

Fortenberry was third in the javelin with a throw of 69-7.

Knight, Varnado teammates Asia Magee and Daggs along with Franklinton’s Lambert were sixth and 10th-12th in the javelin with distances of 59-3, 46-1, 44-3, 34-3. Walker’s Anna Ferrand won at 125-7.

Gore was third for the high jump at 4-0.

Three teams from Washington Parish competed in the meet, including Franklinton, Mt. Hermon School and Varnado.

Walker’s Lillian Waguespack cleared the bar at 5-0 to win the event.

Mt. Hermon School’s Amuriel Williams, Franklinton’s Warren, Mt. Hermon School’s Jumyrie Williams, Varnado’s Debriana Weary and Franklinton’s Seiana Wilson came in fourth, 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th after clocking times of 13.56, 14.69, 14.91, 15.95 and 19.39. Jewel Sumner’s Jonee’ Sims won in 12.87.

Franklinton’s 4×100 team was fourth. The group ran the event in one minute and had Bryant, Gore, Mason and Warren. Walker clocked in at 52.29 to top the event.

Mt. Hermon School teammates Amuriel Williams and Jumyrie Williams along with Franklinton teammates Ketaylor Jodges and Jazmya Jones were fifth, ninth, 11th and 12th in the 200 with times of 29.53, 32.52, 36.93 and 37.43. Sims won in 27.05.

Franklinton’s Ashiriah Williams came in sixth for the triple jump. Walker’s Brianna Moore won with a distance of 31-3.

Knight, Magee, Smith and Lambert were seventh, eighth, 10th and 12th in the discus with throws of 54-9, 54-1, 45-7 and 40-6. Loranger’s Mady Shields threw an 80-4 to win.

Bryant and Weary were eighth and 11th in the long jump at 12-8.5 and 10-0. Loranger’s Amiracle Collins won at 15-10.

Walker won the meet with 216 points, as eight teams posted points.

Loranger posted 142 for second, followed by Jewel Sumner’s 61, Mt. Hermon School’s 47 and St. Helena College and Career Academy’s 28. Franklinton was sixth with 18 and Varnado came in eighth with two.
