Local teams combine for 8-1 record at tourney

Washington Parish softball teams had a great showing in the Jewel Sumner Tournament that took place on Friday and Saturday.

Franklinton, Mt. Hermon School and Pine combined to go 8-1 in the event.

Franklinton and Mt. Hermon both won all three games.

Franklinton won every game by double digits.

The Lady Demons opened the event with a 15-3 victory over Kenner Discovery Health Science in five innings.

Franklinton went up 6-0 after the first inning before making it 15-0 in the third before Kenner Discovery scored a run in the third and two more in the fifth.

Khristian Schexnider went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.

Skylar Branch doubled twice and had a single, while driving in two runs and scoring two runs.

Bailey Brooks went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Ashlyn Welch tallied three hits in as many at bats with two runs scored.

Albanie Fussell homered and doubled, while tallying three RBIs and scoring two runs.

Brylie Fowler tallied two hits including a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Missouri Varnado singled and scored a run.

Aayah Faour scored a run.

Aleigha Fussell pitched the five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Franklinton defeated Springfield and Loranger on Saturday.

The game against Springfield was a 15-0 win in three innings.

The Lady Demons scored nine runs in the first and six more in the third.

Welch had a 3-for-3 game with three runs scored and two RBIs.

Albanie Fussell also went 3-for-3. She scored two runs and drove one home.

Fowler homered, singled, scored three runs and drove in two.

Aleigha Fussell singled, doubled and drove in two runs.

Schexnider tallied two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Brooks singled twice, drove in a run and scored two runs.

Varnado tallied a single, an RBI and two runs scored.

Faour singled and drove in two runs.

Branch and Caylin Turnage scored a run.

Aleigha Fussell and Branch combined on the shutout.

Fussell threw two innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts and two walks.

Branch pitched an inning, allowing two hits with a strikeout and no walks.

Franklinton defeated Loranger, 17-1, in three innings.

The Lady Demons scored 11 runs in the bottom of third after going into the frame up 6-1.

Albanie Fussell went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Brooks also went 3-for-3. She scored a run and drove one home.

Schexnider tallied two hits that included a double, four runs batted in and two runs scored.

Aleigha Fussell had two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Welch singled, scored four runs and drove in one.

Fowler tripled, scored two runs and had three RBIs.

Varnado singled, scored two runs and drove in two runs.

Faour singled and scored a run.

Branch scored a run.

Schexnider pitched all three innings, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts and two walks.

Mt. Hermon began the tournament with an 11-10 win over Pope John Paul II.

The Lady Jackets trailed 8-3 through four innings, but tied the game in the sixth after posting two in the fifth and three more in the sixth. Pope John Paul II went back in front with two in the bottom of the sixth, but Mt. Hermon countered with two in the seventh before holding Pope John Paul II scoreless in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Layla Riley tripled, singled, drove in two runs and scored a run.

Sydnei Tullos singled, scored three runs and tallied an RBI.

Alexa Bulloch singled and scored three runs.

Shunna Williams scored and scored a run.

Emily Bulloch scored two runs, while Jaydn Stafford scored a run and drove one home.

Saturday’s games were victories over Vidalia and Kilbourne.

The win over Vidalia was 10-5.

Mt. Hermon scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth after trailing 4-3 going into the frame.

Riley went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs batted in and a run scored.

Alexa Bulloch doubled, scored two runs and drove in two runs.

Williams singled and scored a run.

Bailey Fortenberry singled, drove in a run and scored two runs.

Alexis Magee doubled and drove in a run.

Tullos, Stafford, Emily Bulloch and Blayke Brinker all scored a run.

Magee threw a complete game, allowing three earned runs on one hit with six strikeouts and eight walks.

Mt. Hermon’s win over Kilbourne was 12-3.

The Lady Jackets scored three runs each in the first, second, third and sixth innings.

Kilbourne’s runs came with one in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Williams went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Alexa Bulloch singled, scored three runs and drove in two.

Katherine Quin singled and scored two runs.

Fortenberry had a hit and two runs batted in.

Magee posted a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Emily Bulloch singled.

Tullos scored two runs and drove in two, while Stafford scored a run.

Alexa Bulloch went the distance in the circle, allowing no earned runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Pine went 2-1.

Friday’s game was a 6-4 win over Springfield.

Kirbee Magee went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Addyson Phelps singled twice and scored two runs.

Bailey Brooks had two hits and two RBIs.

Dillon Sumrall tallied two hits including a double and an RBI.

Hailey Martin singled twice.

Lily Crain doubled and drove in a run.

Alyssa Phelps singled.

Kiyasha Clark scored two runs.

Sumrall pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run on six hits with a strikeout and three walks.

Pine went 1-1 on Saturday with a win over Kilbourne and a loss to Hammond.

Alyssa Phelps threw a perfect game against Kilbourne in a 14-0 win in five innings.

Phelps went all five innings and struck out six hitters.

Offensively, Phelps along with Addyson Phelps singled, scored two runs and drove in a run.

Sumrall went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Crain singled, drove in four runs and scored a run.

Katie Crain tallied a hit with a run scored and two RBIs.

Magee posted a hit, a run batted in and a run scored.

Clark scored four runs, while Brooks scored a run.

The game against Hammond was a 9-6 contest.

Addyson Phelps singled, doubled, scored two runs and drove in a run.

Sumrall tallied two hits including a double.

Crain posted two hits.

Clark singled, scored a run and drove in two runs.

Brooks singled and drove in two runs.

Alyssa Phelps and Magee scored a run each, while Katie Crain drove in a run.
