Franklinton goes 3-1 in Washington Parish Tournament

Franklinton’s Demons went 3-1 in the Washington Parish Tournament that took place March 11-13.

The event was held at Franklinton, Pine and Pearl River.

Five teams from Washington Parish competed in the event. Mt. Hermon School and Pine went 1-2, while Bogalusa and Varnado were 0-2.

All of Franklinton’s games were at Franklinton, while Pine played all of its games at Pine.

Franklinton began the event by topping Loranger, 3-2, on March 11.

Isaac Wascom went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Micah Wascom singled, scored a run and drove one home. Dillon Pace doubled. Trayshun Warren singled. Chase Penton scored a run.

Winning pitcher Daylin Sigler allowed a run on five hits with five strikeouts and five walks in four innings.

The Demons split games with Mt. Hermon School and Walker the next game.

Franklinton defeated Mt. Hermon School in the first game, 11-4.

The Demons jumped out to a 7-1 lead through two innings. Warren had a big game with a homer, triple, four runs batted in and a run scored. Will Turner tallied two hits that included a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Rickey Burkhalter singled, scored a run and drove in two. Isaac Wascom singled and scored two runs. Jordan McKenzie doubled, scored a run and posted a run batted in. Penton and Micah Wascom singled and scored a run. D.J. Corkern and Sigler each scored a run.

The next game was a 7-0 loss to Walker.

Penton singled for Franklinton’s only hit.

The Demons final game of the tournament was a 7-2 win over French Settlement on March 12.

Micah Wascom tallied three hits, including a double, three RBIs and a run scored. McKenzie went 3-for-3. Burkhalter singled twice and drove in two runs. Turner doubled and scored a run.

Sigler singled and scored a run. Isaac Wascom singled and drove in a run. Penton and Banyan Penton singled. Corkern scored two runs, while Warren and Jaheim Jefferson scored a run each.

Pine’s first game was a 13-0 win over Kentwood on March 11.

The Raiders led 5-0 through two innings and scored eight runs in the third.

Ethan Ryles singled, doubled, scored two runs and drove in two runs. Bryson Thomas tallied two hits including a double with two runs scored and an RBI. Brandon Sprehe went 2-for-3 with a double. Luke Spears doubled and scored a run.

Chase Cooper, Clint Miley and John Eric Self all singled and scored a run. Cayden Schololgel drove in three runs, while Nathan Adams scored three runs, Coby Sheridan and Lucas Lemaire scored a run each. Sprehe was the winning pitcher. He went three shutout innings, allowing one hit with nine strikeouts and two walks.

Pine was defeated in its next game by Jewel Sumner, 6-1.

Ryals singled, tripled and scored a run. Sheridan singled and drove in a run. Sprehe and Cooper both singled.

The game on March 13 was a 13-2 loss against Walker.

Cooper had two hits and a run scored. Self singled, scored a run and drove one home. Sheridan, Thomas, Miley and Schololgel all singled.

Mt. Hermon School began the tournament with a 10-0 win over Varnado on March 11 at Pine..

The game was scoreless through three innings.

Varnado’s Quovadis Bickham recorded two hits.

After the setback to Franklinton the following day, the Yellow Jackets were topped by Pearl River, 8-7 at Franklinton.

Bogalusa began the event with a 12-6 loss to Pearl River on March 11 at Pearl River.

On March 12, Bogalusa came up short to Jewel Sumner, 4-3, at Franklinton.

For Varnado, after the setback to Mt. Hermon School, the Wildcats were defeated by Kentwood, 12-6, at Franklinton.

Everett Peters had two hits and an RBI for the Wildcats. Hooks and Tyree Mathews posted a hit each.
