Lois Elaine Deal Mitchell, was born Oct. 26, 1925, to W. T. “Harry” and Annabell Reeves Deal. She departed this life March 7, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo M. Mitchell; a son, Andrew G. Mitchell; parents, Harry Deal and Annabell Reeves Deal; a brother, W. H. Deal; and a sister, Guella Deal McLeod.

She is survived by three children, Leo Milton Mitchell Jr., Windell Ray Mitchell and Barbara Elaine Mitchell Corkern; four grandchildren, Eric D. Mitchell, Julie M. Mitchell Kussatz, Megan Rae Mitchell and Laurie Lee Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Cadence M. Mitchell, Harlie Ann Kussatz and Lexie Laine Kussatz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Columbia Clinic School of Nursing in Columbia, Miss., earning her Registered Nurse, and took part in graduate training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

After raising her family, she returned to part-time work at the Bogalusa Medical Center and did private duty nursing until she went to work for the Bogalusa Heart Study, retiring in 1986.

She was a member of Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Oushola Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Interment will be held at Seal Cemetery

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 11, at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. James Moore officiating. Interment will be held at Seal Cemetery in Varnado.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 510 Ave. B in Bogalusa, on Thursday, March 11, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. James Moore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in her memory, to Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial United Methodist Church.
