Bowling Green is runner-up in state tournament

Bowling Green School’s Lady Buccaneers were second in the 2021 Class 3A Basketball Tournament that was held at Oak Hill Academy.

After a 46-36 win over North Delta School to begin the event on Wednesday, Bowling Green moved to the finals on Friday with a 34-24 victory over Columbia Academy.

KaKa Seal scored 16 points to lead the Lady Buccaneers. Seal, who made two 3-pointers and hit eight of her nine free throws, pulled down two rebounds.

Bridget Devall tallied seven points, a rebound and a steal.

Bailey Devall posted six points, including two 3-pointers, four boards, an assist, two steals and a blocked shot.

Claire Wascom had five points that included a 3-pointer, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Anna Claire Crowe posted seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Bowling Green was topped in Saturday’s title game, 44-36, by Clinton Christian Academy.

Bailey Devall led the Lady Buccaneers in scoring with 12 points that included two 3-pointers. She pulled down four boards and made two steals.

Peyton Dupuy tallied six points that included two 3-pointers and one rebound.

Bridget Devall posted six points, a rebound, an assist and two steals.

Wascom recorded four points, two assists and three steals.

Javonnie Bickham tallied three points that included a 3-pointer and a rebound.

Seal posted three points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Crowe had two points, two assists, four steals and a blocked shot.

Three players made the all-tournament team for Bowling Green, including Bailey Devall, Seal and Wascom.

The top three teams advanced to the Overall Tournament that began yesterday and continues today, Friday and Saturday and Monday and Tuesday.

The Lady Buccaneers began play in the Overall Tournament yesterday against Jackson Preparatory School after press time.
