Dear Editor,

For the past 102 years, the American Legion, as personified in Bogalusa by Magic City Post No. 24, has had a moving and productive presence in our community, keeping alive the spirit of the doughboys who in 1918 sang:

“So prepare, say a prayer

Send the word, send the word to beware

We’ll be over, we’re coming over

And we won’t come back till it’s over, over there.”

Those of us who knew those old fellows in their last years were deeply influenced by them and have tried, as well as we could, to take their place in helping see to the ever growing wants and needs of these changing times, these sometimes, frightening times.

Now, more than ever, we need the community’s help and support if we are to continue to exist as a functioning entity. Fund-raising and fun events are underway, such as fish frys and raffles, and will be publicized and will be enjoyable.

To the people of Bogalusa and in all of Washington Parish, we say that we will deeply appreciate your participation and support in these upcoming activities.
