Franklinton High School’s Tayte Landry

Franklinton High School’s Tayte Landry is a two-sport athlete.

The sophomore is a powerlifter and she is on the dance team.

Last season, Landry reached state in powerlifting, but the event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Landry is competing in the regionals on Friday at Pope John Paul II. The regional meet is a qualifying meet for state.

“She is a young woman who is dainty and refined, yet full of power and strength. She is physically and mentally strong,” Franklinton powerlifting coach John Lambert said.

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?

I think what I enjoy most about powerlifting is that with every other sport, it’s about winning. With powerlifting, it’s about lifting more than I lifted before. Powerlifting has not only made me stronger, it has also helped me with self image and confidence.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?

The relationships, the friendships, the bonds I have with my teammates. We support each other. You can’t perform if you don’t have people backing you up. If everybody on the team isn’t on the same page, how are you going to perform well? It’s just nice that everybody’s supporting you. I like that I have friends like these.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?

My coach (Lambert) because I’m pretty sure that he has more confidence in me than I do in myself. I get into my head a little bit about how am I going to do this or that, but he’s always there pushing me to do my best.

Favorite team?

Franklinton Demons.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?

The fair because you get the week off from school. It’s also that one time of year when the community comes together, everybody’s there and it’s a great time.
