M-Tisha Hall, a children’s book author who grew up in Bogalusa and now lives in Metairie, will be returning to Bogalusa on Friday afternoon to participate in a book signing event for her newest book.

Hall will be at the Bogalusa Branch Library, located at 304 Ave. F, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. She will be selling and signing copies of her book, “The ABCs of Art.”

On the library’s Facebook page, there is also a recording of Hall reading the book.

Hall is not only an author, but also an artist and a business entrepreneur. Her main company is called “Kidz Kreationz.” The company offers “mobile art parties,” where she comes to a customer’s home with art supplies and teaches youngsters art skills while helping them to create their own masterpieces.

It was that love of art that convinced Hall to write her book.

“I’ve always been into writing,” said Hall, who graduated from high school in 2005. “When I was in high school, I technically wrote my first book — it was a Christmas book. I’ve always loved learning, and instilled reading skills into my children by getting them library cards as soon as they were old enough. I know a lot of kids struggle with learning, so I’m hoping my book can make it fun.”

Hall’s book goes through the alphabet, letter by letter, with each letter having an associated art element with it. For example, A is for apron.

“Then it will have a picture of an apron, and explain what it is and what it’s used for,” Hall said. “It’s not only helping them with their ABCs, but also helping them learn about art.”

Hall, who has four children, hopes to eventually write a book featuring each of them — four books in all.

“Each book will have each of my children as a main character talking about an issue that they would like to discuss,” she said.

Hall also owns a non-profit organization that brings young people together for projects and community service events. Recently the group gave away personal protective equipment for the COVID-19 pandemic, participated in a toy giveaway during the Christmas season, and brought cookies to local schools to show appreciation for teachers.

“We do things in Washington Parish even though the group is based out of the New Orleans area,” she said. “If anyone’s children are interested in participating, just contact us and we can get them involved as well.”
