The Pearl River rodeo team got some great news over the break when the building of its new rodeo barn was completed. The barn is the first phase of the new build for the program. The barn is located on the northwest end of PRCC’s campus behind the soccer fields and it features eight stables that will house horses for the team in addition to changing rooms and office space. The barn once again shows PRCC’s commitment to its rodeo program that it launched three years ago.

“I’m proud of the new facility and the support that we have received from PRCC,” said head rodeo coach Frank Graves. “We are on our way to building a great program and I think the facilities we’ve built shows that.”

Fall Semester

The rodeo team had decent fall showing in the fall semester competing in a handful of events while seeing several of its members like Pacey McBride (Poplarville, Miss.), Sarah Booty (Liberty, Miss; Amite County), Koby Sanchez (Ethel) and Bryce Graves (Poplarville) place in the top 10 on a consistent basis in its competitions. Towards the end of the season Graves was proud of his team’s performance but also knew that there was room for improvement.

“I think we’re finally settling down and I think that’s going to show by the time the spring season rolls around.”

Looking Ahead

The rodeo team will begin its spring season on Feb. 18-20 when it travels to Meridian, Miss. to compete in East Mississippi’s competition.

The program will then host its first rodeo event in Poplarville on March 25-27.

After that, they will head to Arkansas the next weekend to compete in the University of Arkansas-Monticello’s event. The team will then head to UT-Martin’s competition on April 15-17 before they finish their regular season in Senatobia for Northwest’s competition on April 22-24.
