Clara Mae Volz, 82, a resident of Pine, passed from this life surrounded by her family Tuesday evening at her home. She was born in Mt. Hermon on March 12, 1938. She was a Christian, loved Jesus and was a member of New Life U.P.C. in Bogalusa. Clara enjoyed reading, crocheting blankets for her grandchildren, sewing, bargain shopping, solving crosswords, and putting puzzles together. She had a very quick wit, and loved to joke and laugh, as well as spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Vickie Millien of Thomas, Rhonda Smith of Bogalusa, Charles “Randy” (Cathy) Sullivan of Alford, Fla., Robin Talley of Bogalusa, and Tresha (David) Phelps of Pine; one brother, Donald (Karen) Varnado of Franklinton; her granddaughter, Nancy Bates, whom she lived with and who helped care for her; her fur-baby, Ginger/Judy; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Varnado and Della Mae Parker; one child, Carla Sullivan; late husband, Charles Volz; and sisters, Geneva Varnado, Willie Mae Varnado Dubbison, Peggy Sue Varnado Broussard, Mary Margaret Collins and Doris Varnado Perez.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 2, from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Wesley Quave will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Zachary Millien, Jason Smith, Michael Sullivan, Landon Turnage, Charles Michel and Stephen Cotton. The honorary pallbearer will be David Parker Phelps.
