Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Bowling Green School’s Rece Dillon

Bowling Green School’s Rece Dillon is a three-sport athlete.

The senior plays basketball, baseball and golf.

In baseball, Dillon is a guard and he plays shortstop and pitches in baseball.

Dillon has been a second-team all-district player in basketball for the last three years.

Dillon was a second-team all-district player in basketball for two seasons.

In golf, Dillon has gone as far as South State. Golfers need to have a score of 85 or lower to qualify for postseason. At South State, the top four teams and top four individuals who are not on a qualifying team go to state.

The pandemic canceled baseball and golf early last season.

“Rece Dillon exemplifies what our program is all about,” Bowling Green boys basketball coach Pat King said. “Rece is one of the purest shooters/scorers I’ve ever coached, handles the basketball well, plays with athleticism, and knows the game of basketball as well as any high school basketball player around — yet he still plays the game with a ‘whatever you or the team needs coach’ mentality. Rece has always led by example, but this year, he is learning to lead vocally and directing things as the coach on the floor. This growth in Rece is probably what I’m most excited about as he continues to grow as a young man. The way Rece carries himself on and off the court is why he is successful. As a program, we talk a lot about using the game of basketball to glorify God, and in His word, Paul writes to the church of Philippi, ‘Do everything without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation among whom you shine as lights in the world.’ (Philippians 2:14-15) This is Rece Dillon.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?

I enjoy meeting new people, being with my friends, being able to learn more about sports and life, being a man and growing up and being a leader.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?

Helps me with my grades because I get to go to games and it makes me be more active and I feel like I’m more active in school. It helps me get stronger, workout and stay in shape.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?

Definitely, my mom (Lee Dillon) because she always aggravates me about getting more practice and staying longer. When I get home, she hits me ground balls and helps me practice for baseball.

Who is your favorite athlete? Why?

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry because he’s a shooter and he’s a leader on the team and he can do anything basketball wise.

Favorite team?

New Orleans Saints.

Best thing about Washington Parish?

Being in a small town, knowing everybody and just being able to have small roads and not a lot of traffic.
