As we continue to watch the spike in COVID-19 cases throughout Louisiana and Washington Parish, we are keenly aware that the number of infected cases continues to climb. In our area over the last few weeks, we have risen from 5.2 percent to 5.8 percent and are now at 11.5 percent.

After much thought and consideration for all concerned, I believe it is in the best interest of all that we continue with virtual learning for our students throughout the month of December. At this time, we are not ready to declare that we must continue virtually past the holiday season, but that too may be probable in the near future.

We continue to stay in close tough with the CDC and their doctors, who recommend the steps we take to ensure that all concerned are safe and virus-free. We must continue to be diligent in mask wearing, hand washing and temperature taking in the days to come. With continuing these precautions, we should ensure less exposure within our schools.

Please remember when you do go to a school to mask up and use hand sanitizer provided for you at our facilities. The only organizations allowed to continue to come to campuses are athletes who participate in LHSAA-sanctioned sports.

Please understand that we do realize that the best educational setting for our students is in the classroom, but I also know that we have to do what is best for all concerned when the spread of the virus is so high at this time. Please continue to log in each day, contact your teachers, and if you have any issues, please call the school and speak to the administration. Our employees continue to work from schools, and are there to help your child be as successful as possible in their educational endeavors.

Thank you so much for your continued patience and support in these unprecedented times. This is truly unlike any time that we have lived through before, but we can make it together, working for our children.
