Local LHSAA teams headed to the playoffs

Three teams from Washington Parish have reached the Louisiana High School Athletic Association playoffs.

Bogalusa, Pine and Varnado all reached the postseason.

Bogalusa and Pine and will play their first-round games Friday at 7 p.m. Both teams are on the road.

Varnado is the No. 32 team in Class 2A. The Wildcats went 1-4 in the regular season and were scheduled to face top-seeded Many (7-0).

According to a Facebook post by Varnado High School, all of Varnado’s sporting events have been canceled this week because COVID-19 concerns. This includes the playoff game and three boys and girls basketball games.

The boys and girls basketball teams had three games scheduled this week with home games against Fontainebleau and Springfield and a road contest against Mt. Hermon School on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, respectively.

In the post, Varnado High School also said they appreciate the support of their parents, fans and community. They also said thank you for continuing to support VHS.

Many will advance to the second round of the playoffs and go against either No. 16 South Plaquemines (4-3) or 17th-seeded Franklin (4-4).

Bogalusa reached the Class 3A playoffs as the No. 24-seeded team after going 3-3 this season. The Lumberjacks will open the playoffs against ninth-seeded Madison Prep, which went 5-2 in the regular season, at Olympia Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The winner goes against either eighth-seeded Donaldsonville (4-2) or No. 25 Loranger (2-3).

In Class 2A, Pine is the 23rd-seeded team after a 2-5 regular season. They will go against 10th-seeded Port Allen, which went 5-2 in the regular season.

The winner will play seventh-seeded and defending Class 2A state champion Ferriday (5-1). Ferriday was scheduled to play against East Feliciana, but the Class 2A bracket on www.lhsaa.org has that game as a forfeit by East Feliciana, meaning that Ferriday advances to the second round.
