Pine was defeated by St. Helena College and Career Academy, 24-0, in the Raiders’ District 9-2A opener on the road Saturday.

“Overall, I was pleased with the way the defense and special teams played,” Pine coach Bradley Seal said. “We allowed two touchdowns and had a blocked punt. Offensively, we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities. We had the ball two times inside the 10 and didn’t score.”

Corey Barber recovered the blocked punt. Seal said that two or three players got pressure for the blocked punt.

Adrianuen Johnson ran for 85 yards.

Audrelique Dural rushed for 25 yards. Defensively, he made nine tackles.

Pine is 1-3 this season.

Pine’s next game will take place on Friday against Independence on the road in a District 9-2A contest.

“We need to get back on track and get a win, our first district win this year. I think the key is not allowing the receivers to have a big play. If we don’t allow the big play on defense, we should be alright,” Seal said.

Independence comes into this week at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in district after being defeated by Kentwood, 42-14, last week.

Pine won last year’s game, 34-0.

The Raiders have three regular season games left after this week, starting with Kentwood on Nov. 6.
