Washington Parish President Richard “Ned” Thomas issued a statement Tuesday morning, as Tropical Storm Zeta was forecasted to make landfall sometime later this week, likely Wednesday.

In the statement, Thomas said:

“As of (Tuesday) morning, a tropical storm warning has been issued for Washington Parish, which means tropical storm force winds expected in our area within the next 36 hours. With the current track of Tropical Storm Zeta, the National Weather Service is forecasting moderate to major impacts for southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi. Heavy rainfall, strong to potentially damaging winds and a few tornadoes could be possible with Zeta.

“You should always remain prepared throughout hurricane season. All residents, if you haven’t already done so, should be preparing an emergency plan. Now is the time to make sure your generator is in working order, your gutters, catch basins and ditches are free of any debris, and that you have secured any loose items around your home. I continue to urge everyone to remain vigilant and stay tuned to local media.”
