Nielsen’s Pharmacy, located at 1619 S. Columbia St. in Bogalusa, will be holding a Prescription Drug Disposal Day today, Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This is part of the statewide “Drug Take Back Day” campaign.

Accepted items include expired prescription drugs, unwanted prescription drugs, over-the-counter pills, and controlled and non-controlled substances. Non-accepted items include liquid products, injectable drugs and syringes.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is encouraging residents to participate in the opportunity to safely dispose of dangerous substances.

“If you don’t properly dispose of your unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs in your home — they might find a new one,” Landry said. “Don’t be a dealer. Drop off your medicines on Saturday.”

There will also be Drug Take Back Day events in Covington, Mandeville and Slidell during the day.

The complete list with full addresses and partnering law enforcement agencies may be found online at takebackday.dea.gov.

Landry also reminded those unable to participate on Saturday that permanent drop boxes are located throughout Louisiana. A list of those may be found online at www.endtheepidemicla.org.
