Varnado’s Wildcats are on the road this week and play against Metairie Park Country Day at 6 p.m. on Friday.

“Road trip. We get an opportunity to go outside of our district and play a school with a tradition,” Varnado coach Milton Green said. “They have a new coaching staff. We expect them to play smart, fundamental sound football with a spread attack.”

Varnado comes in with a 1-1 record after defeating Slaughter Community Charter.

In that game, Jaheim Hooks tallied four touchdowns with three rushing and one passing. Hooks had 220 all-purpose yards.

KyJuan McCree caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Hooks.

Malik Patterson posted 115 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Zamoriyon Washington ran for 75 yards on six attempts.

Country Day begins the week with an 0-2 record and are among those receiving votes in the Class 1A Louisiana Sports Writers Association Poll. The Cajuns were defeated by Newman, 27-7, last week.

After this week, VHS plays Amite on Oct. 22.
