Preparations for the football season continued for Franklinton on Thursday, as the Demons hosted Covington.

Franklinton did not put up any points and allowed just one touchdown and the defense forced a turnover on an interception by Keyon Nelson.

Franklinton coach Jonathan Barber said his team did some good things.

“Obviously, we have a ways to go as I think most teams do at this point in the year,” Barber said. “I thought our defense played particularly well. I thought we did some good things up front on the offensive line. I thought there were some holes there for runs to be made. We just didn’t execute to our capability, but we’ll get there. That comes with time. It’s still early in the season. I was very optimistic after our performance. I think it’s something we can certainly build on and our kids will embrace the challenge of getting better going forward.”

Barber said Franklinton moved the ball some, but was not able to finish some drives.

“It was a good experience,” Barber said on Friday. “We played a quality team and got some good film and some good work in. We’ve evaluated that film already and we’ll make adjustments and improvements going forward.”

The teams ran four series with the varsity. There was a goal line period and two 10-minute quarters at the end. Covington’s score came in the time portion to go up, 7-0.

Franklinton travels to Bogalusa to open the season on Friday.
