Bowling Green School’s Buccaneers were topped by Centreville Academy, 38-28, in their opening game of the 2020 season on the road Friday.

“Centreville is a good, physical team,” Bowling Green coach Riley Boudreaux said. “We were a little shorthanded with people out (because of injuries), but the kids played hard, didn’t point any fingers. We’ll fix our mistakes and get ready for Friday.”

Jonathan Savarese threw for 268 yards with three touchdowns passes and he ran for another.

Javon Bickham recorded 186 yards receiving.

Kengie Gordon tallied 115 total yards with two touchdowns.

Kendrell Robertson posted 87 total yards and a touchdown.

Nathan Jenkins had 70 yards receiving.

Bowling Green’s next game takes place Friday when they play against Amite School Center at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Miss. at 7 p.m.

Amite School Center enters this week with a 1-1 record. Last week, Amite School Center lost to Brookhaven Academy, 57-0.

The Buccaneers will be celebrating Homecoming Night and Senior Night on Friday.

“Big week, a lot going on,” Boudreaux said. “We’ve just got to play our football. We’ve got to play clean, know what we’re doing and execute it. That’s what shot us in the foot last week. We’re going to find out what kind of team we are as we try to bounce back from the loss.”

After this week, Bowling Green goes against Columbia Academy on Sept. 11.
