Vera “Nanny” Polk Hughes passed away in Covington on June 18, 2020, at the age of 86. She was born in Enon on July 13, 1933.

She was an active member of Love Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Kendall (LeAnn) Hughes of Sun, and Roger (Emily) Hughes of Laurel, Miss.; her grandchildren, Heather (Ivan) Phillips, Alex and Savannah Hughes, Scott (Rebecca) Hughes, Leigh Hughes, and Derrik Sorrell; her great-grandchildren, MaKinley and Jordyn Phillips, Katelyn, Theodore and Evelyn Hughes, Anissa Hughes, Dahlia and Marcus Sorrell; and son-in-law, Joe Sorrell and sister-in-law, Jeanne Polk. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Myrtle Polk; daughter, Paulette Sorrell; and her siblings, Robert “Bo” Earl, and Merle Polk, Ellouise Knight, and Laverne Hernandez.

Services will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Sunday, June 21. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until the funeral service begins at 2 p.m. Bro. Glynn Irwin will officiate. Interment will follow at Pierce Cemetery.
