Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal was re-elected last fall to a third term in office.

On Thursday, June 11, Seal’s oath of office was administered by 22nd Judicial District Court Judge Richard Swartz at an informal ceremony attended by members of the sheriff’s family, several district court Judges, the sheriff’s administrative staff, deputy sheriffs and community friends.

Following the sheriff’s ceremony, Swartz swore in the administrative staff for the new term of office, which begins July 1 and extends to June 30, 2024. Chief Criminal Deputy Mike Haley, Chief Civil Deputy Brent Jones, Chief of Corrections Jim Miller and Deputy Chief Shannon Lyons took the oath of office as administered by Swartz.

“It has been an honor to serve as your sheriff since July 1, 2012,” Seal said. “The privilege of being selected by your fellow citizens to be the chief law enforcement officer in the parish is a blessing beyond description. Along with our excellent administrative staff, criminal deputies, corrections deputies and civil deputies, I have worked diligently to maintain the integrity of the Sheriff’s Office.

“We will continue with a high level of operational and fiscal responsibility during the coming term as we serve you, the citizens of Washington Parish. I thank all of our residents for their ongoing support of local law enforcement and assure you that we will always be here for you.”
