On May 9, a special $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Franklinton High School graduate, Sarah Beth Adams. Sarah is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Adams.

This was the first special award from the Nathan E. Polk Memorial Fund. Nathan was a graduate of Franklinton High School. On Jan. 13, he was involved in a tragic car accident that claimed his life.

He was the son of Robert and Ericka “Shelly” Polk, the brother of Kristen Polk and also leaves behind his special friend/love of his life, Gracie Palmer.

Family members said that Nathan was always giving in so many ways. Through his love for family and friends, his legacy will live forever through his talents to continue his giving nature. He was talented in so many special ways and one of those talents was the gift of creating artwork that he learned from his special art teachers from elementary through high school.

One of his creations, “Stairway to Life,” was used to raise funds for this first annual scholarship to help a student in his or her journey after high school.

The family of Nathan E. Polk will present a scholarship each year to a deserving senior from various schools, through fund-raising using talents he left behind.
