Lavell Crain, a long-time resident of Bogalusa, passed away on May 16, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, at the age of 82.

He is survived by two daughters, Cecilia (Ed) Blackwell and Sharon (James Ray) Creel; daughter-in-law, Sedean Mizell Crain; former wife and mother of his children, Winifred (Joe) Johnson; former wife and friend, Sylvia Crain Toney; sons, Duane Nobles and Christopher Nobles; brothers, H.L. (Charlene) Crain, Arnold “Pete” (Brenda) Crain and Louis Ray “Luke” (Lisa) Crain; sisters-in-law, Betty Crain, Carol Baughman, Sylvia Johnson, and Gloria Lupo; brother-in-law, Jesse (Sarah) Williams; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Lavell Crain; parents, Van Nick (Isabel) Crain; sisters, Eurena (Curt) Stogner, Eva Mae (Julious) Miley, Athalee (Merion) Williams, and Azzie Crain; brothers, Hubert (Elgie) Crain, Bufford Crain, Eufford (Claire) Crain, and Houston Crain; and brother-in-law, Allen Johnson.

A graveside celebration of Pop’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, (where social distancing can be applied), with Bro. Fred Brumfield officiating.

In Lavell’s honor, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to a COVID-19 research charity, an Alzheimer’s research charity, do random acts of kindness to someone in need, or simply help a friend.
