Thirteen people were injured by gunfire Saturday night in Bogalusa, with one victim in critical condition, according to Major Troy Tervalon of the Bogalusa Police Department.

At approximately 9:12 p.m., the BPD began receiving calls that gunshots were heard in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and East Fourth Street, Tervalon said. Callers also told officers that several individuals had been shot and required medical attention.

“Upon arrival, officers observed an extremely large crowd of people gathered in the area for what was believed to be a memorial service for Dominique James, who was recently found murdered,” Tervalon said. “Officers located several victims with gunshot wounds and attempted to secure the scene.”

Tervalon said that BPD officers requested assistance from many agencies, including the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Varnado Police Department, Bogalusa Fire Department, and Northshore EMS.

Tervalon said that officers determined that 13 individuals had been shot during the incident, with one in critical condition.

“At this time, no eyewitnesses have come forth with any information,” Tervalon said Sunday morning.

The BPD is requesting that anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting call one of the following numbers: police headquarters at 985-732-3611 or the detectives division at 985-732-6240.
