Claudia Louise Miley Crain, 72, of Franklinton, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020, at her home after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

She inspired thousands of students’ hearts and minds as an educator for over 40 years. Claudia taught in Baton Rouge for 30 years, half the years at Sherwood Junior High School and the remaining years at McKinley Middle School, before returning home. She then taught in the Gifted Program of the Bogalusa City Schools for an additional 10 years, working at different schools during that time. Claudia won many awards during the years, most notably Teacher of the Year 1980-81 for East Baton Rouge School District and again in 1989-90 at McKinley Middle School. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her beloved family.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 51 years, Willie J. “Will” Crain. Together, they had a son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Candy Crain, and a granddaughter, Presley Crain, all of Bogalusa. She leaves behind a sister and brother-in-law, Debbie Adams Peterson and Darryl Peterson of Bogalusa, and a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Bridget Miley of McComb, Miss. She will also be missed by her niece, Elizabeth Miley Norman of McComb; nephews, J.R. Miley of McComb, Brock Adams of Bogalusa and Barrett Adams of Baton Rouge; and great-nieces, Summer Miley and Marleigh Norman.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Miley Wood; step-father, Mason Wood; and father, Howard Miley.

In lieu of flowers, Claudia requested that donations be made in her memory to a local charity of your choice.

A graveside funeral service will be held in Ponemah Cemetery on Sunday, May 10, with the Rev. Otha Schilling officiating.
