The state of Louisiana reported Monday that more than 20,000 reported cases of COVID-19 are now considered as “presumed recovered,” according to statistics released Monday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The LDH said at noon Monday that there are 20,316 presumed recovered cases of COVID-19, as of its May 2 update.

A person is presumed to have recovered if:

• It has been more than 14 days, since he/she tested positive and he/she is not currently in the hospital or deceased (when hospital status is known), or
• It has been more than 21 days, since he/she tested positive and he/she is not deceased (when hospital status is unknown).

On Monday, the LDH said that there had been 29,673 cases of COVID-19 reported, with 1,991 deaths. On Sunday, there had been 29,340 cases and 1,969 deaths reported.

The increase between Sunday’s statewide update and Monday’s update was an additional 333 cases and an additional 22 deaths.

On Sunday, the state reported an additional 200 cases and an additional 19 deaths, compared to Saturday. On Saturday, the state reported an additional 429 cases and an additional 23 deaths, compared to Friday.

Washington Parish had reported 291 cases and 21 deaths, according to the Monday update. On Sunday, the parish had reported 285 cases and 21 deaths.

There had been 1,341 cases in St. Tammany Parish, with 116 deaths, and 588 cases in Tangipahoa Parish, with 23 deaths.

There had been 1,650 COVID-19 tests reported from Washington Parish, as of Monday’s update.

On Monday at noon, the LDH reported that the state had 1,502 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, and 220 of those patients required ventilators. On Sunday, the state had reported 1,530 hospitalized patients and 213 ventilators in use.

Also in Monday’s report, the LDH said that 8,540 tests had been completed by the state laboratory, and an additional 172,391 tests had been reported from commercial laboratories — a total of 180,931 tests. The state reported a total of 176,160 tests in Sunday’s update.
