Alice Savoy Penny, 87, a resident of Carriere, Miss., died Friday afternoon, April 24, 2020, at the Saint Oaks Personal Care Center.
She was a native of Franklinton, former resident of Poplarville, Miss., and a former longtime resident of Bogalusa. Alongside her husband, they operated fast-food restaurants, sold campers and RVs and did upholstery work for businesses and homes in Bogalusa for many years. She was a member of Lee’s Creek Baptist Church that loved traveling, often to the mountains of Colorado and other areas throughout the country. Alice enjoyed gardening, watching old Western movies and rambling about town.
She is survived by: three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Toney of Bogalusa, Debra and Glenn Culpepper of Poplarville, and Linda and Walter Collins of Picayune, Miss.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Frances Jenkins of Bogalusa; and also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dayward Duane Penny; husband, Dayward Penny; parents, Hulon Savoy and Eva Ezell Savoy; and a sister, Rose Delaughter.
A graveside funeral service was held in the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery (18184 Sunlight Road in Franklinton) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.
