The state of Louisiana has reported more than 1,500 deaths due to COVID-19, according to statistics released Thursday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

On Thursday, the LDH said that there had been 25,739 cases of COVID-19 reported, with 1,540 deaths. On Wednesday, there had been 25,258 cases and 1,473 deaths reported.

The increase between Wednesday’s statewide update and Thursday’s update was an additional 481 cases and an additional 67 deaths.

Washington Parish had reported 225 cases and 13 deaths, according to the Thursday update. On Wednesday, the parish had reported 214 cases and 13 deaths.

There had been 1,111 cases in St. Tammany Parish, with 89 deaths, and 501 cases in Tangipahoa Parish, with 18 deaths.

Once again, the state saw a decrease in both the number of hospitalized patients, as well as the number of those patients on ventilators.

On Thursday at noon, the LDH reported that the state had 1,727 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, and 274 of those patients required ventilators. On Wednesday, the state had reported 1,747 hospitalized patients, and 287 ventilators in use.

There had been 634 COVID-19 tests reported from Washington Parish, as of Thursday’s update.
