Ada Mae Patterson-Horton was born on March 5, 1946, to the late Willie and Ora Patterson in Pike County, Miss. She departed this life on April 14, 2020, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

She found joy in taking care of others while she fostered “many” children for over 20 years. Some of her many passions were cooking, Patterson-Horton Retreat Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, Intercessory prayer, bible band, hospitality, nursing home ministry, hospital ministry, Mother’s Board, and she loved to travel. There was never a dull moment when she was around.

She began her Christian journey at Hayes Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Hackley. She attended 3rd Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans, Outreach Full Gospel Baptist Church and Greater Friendship Church of God in Christ. She shared her membership with both St. John Temple Church of God in Christ and Ecclesia Family Church, under the leadership of her son-in-law, Pastor Esco E. Burton I and her son, Pastor Garin T. James I.

She leaves to celebrate her life and continued legacy: four children, Treana (Esco) James-Burton, Rev. Reneé James-Simon, Garin (Aloma) James, and Waltress (Michelle) James; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 19 blended grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Patterson and Alton (Sadie) Patterson; three sisters, Audrey Smith, Melba Kagler and Lottie (Peter) Meuchelboeck; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Patterson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Jefferson “Sonny Boy” Horton; her parents, Willie and Ora Patterson; four brothers, Robert Patterson, Herbert Patterson, William Patterson and Richard Patterson; and six sisters, Lillian Brown, Thelma Merrell, Iristean Hart, Vianne Patterson, Verlean Vortice and Geraldine Thompson.

A private graveside will be held at the Patterson Cemetery. Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton is in charge of arrangements. Sign the guestbook online at www.crainandsons.com.
