Parish has reported 8 deaths from COVID-19

Washington Parish has reported eight deaths due to COVID-19, according to statistics released Thursday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The LDH said at noon Thursday that there had been 119 reported cases in Washington Parish, with eight deaths confirmed — the state had reported 106 cases and five deaths in its Wednesday update.

The state of Louisiana had reported 18,283 cases and 702 deaths, according to the Thursday update. On Wednesday at noon, there had been 17,030 cases reported, and 652 deaths.

As of Thursday, there had been 63 parishes that had reported at least one case of COVID-19, out of 64 parishes in the state. The increase between Wednesday’s statewide update and Thursday’s update was an additional 1,253 cases and an additional 50 deaths.

There had been 777 cases in St. Tammany Parish, with 19 deaths, and 283 cases in Tangipahoa Parish, with five deaths.

The LDH said at noon Thursday that there had been 4,971 tests completed by the state laboratory, and another 81,948 tests reported to the state by commercial labs —  a total of 86,919 tests. There had been 81,406 tests reported in Wednesday’s update.

The state also reported that there were 2,014 COVID-19 patients and 473 ventilators in use. Wednesday’s report listed 1,983 patients and 490 of those patients on ventilators.

There had been 354 tests reported from Washington Parish, as of Thursday’s update.

Comparing deaths to cases, the state reported 18,283 cases and 702 deaths — a ratio of 3.8 percent. Comparing overall tests to cases/positive tests, the state reported 86,919 tests and 18,283 cases — a ratio of 21 percent.

Thursday’s update included a jump in the number of additional cases, compared to the previous day. The state’s caseload increased by 1,857 cases in Monday’s report, by 1,417 cases in Tuesday’s report, by 746 cases in Wednesday’s report, and by 1,253 cases in Thursday’s report.

Thursday’s update did include fewer deaths, compared to previous days. The state’s total death count rose by 70 on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and rose by 50 on Thursday.
