Parish now reporting 5 deaths due to COVID-19

Washington Parish has had five deaths due to COVID-19, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The LDH said at noon Wednesday that there had been 106 reported cases in Washington Parish, with five deaths confirmed — the state had reported 92 cases and two deaths in its Tuesday update.

The state of Louisiana had reported 17,030 cases and 652 deaths, according to the Wednesday update. On Tuesday at noon, there had been 16,284 cases reported, and 512 deaths.

As of Wednesday, there had been 63 parishes that had reported at lease one case of COVID-19, out of 64 parishes in the state. Only Tensas Parish had yet to see a case. The increase between Tuesday’s statewide update and Wednesday’s update was an additional 746 cases and an additional 70 deaths.

There had been 733 cases in St. Tammany Parish, with 18 deaths, and 269 cases in Tangipahoa Parish, with four deaths.

The LDH said at noon Wednesday that there had been 4,766 tests completed by the state laboratory, and another 76,640 tests reported to the state by commercial labs — a total of 81,406 tests. There had been 74,655 tests reported in Tuesday’s update.

The state also reported that there were 1,983 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, with 490 of those patients on ventilators. This was a decrease from Tuesday’s report, which listed 1,996 COVID-19 patients and 519 ventilators in use.

There had been 342 tests reported from Washington Parish, as of Wednesday’s update.

Comparing deaths to cases, the state reported 17,030 cases and 652 deaths — a ratio of 3.8 percent. Comparing overall tests to cases/positive tests, the state reported 81,406 tests and 17,030 cases — a ratio of 20.9 percent.

Wednesday was also the second straight day that the number of new cases reported statewide has decreased compared to the prior day’s increase. Monday’s report had 1,857 cases more than Sunday’s report, Tuesday’s report had 1,417 more cases than Monday’s report, and Wednesday’s report had 746 more cases than Tuesday’s report.
