The state of Louisiana has seen its largest one-day spike of COVID-19 cases, according to statistics released Thursday by the Louisiana Department of Health.

The LDH reported at noon Thursday that there had been 9,150 cases reported, and 310 deaths. On Wednesday at noon, there had been 6,424 cases reported and 273 deaths.

That is an increase of 2,726 cases and 37 deaths reported Thursday, compared to Wednesday’s report. The caseload increased by 1,212 cases in Tuesday’s report, and 1,187 cases in Wednesday’s report.

As of Thursday, there had been 61 parishes that had reported at least one case of COVID-19, out of 64 parishes in the state. There had been 50 reported cases in Washington Parish, with two deaths — the state had reported 39 cases and two deaths in its Wednesday update.

There had been 399 cases in St. Tammany Parish, with nine deaths, and 42 cases in Tangipahoa Parish, with one death. The LDH had reported two deaths in Tangipahoa Parish on Wednesday — it was not immediately clear why there was a change in Thursday’s report.

The LDH said at noon Thursday that there had been 3,901 tests completed by the state laboratory, and another 47,185 tests reported to the state by commercial labs. That is a total of 51,086 tests — there had been 45,776 tests reported in Wednesday’s update.

The state also reported that there were 1,639 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, with 507 of those patients on ventilators.

There had been 245 tests reported from Washington Parish, as of Thursday’s update.
