Rubin Charles “RC” Newman, 86, passed away on Jan. 22, 2020 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

RC was born on Dec. 20, 1933 in White Sands, Miss. He was the youngest son of Matt Newman and Mary Tullos Jarrell (Perlis). He was preceded in death by his parents along with his eight brothers and sisters: Louis, Howard, Merle “Doc,” Earl, Dixie, Rosetta, Gladys, and Jeane.

RC is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Alice Rose Fortenberry Newman and his two daughters Mary Ellen Newman Bailey (Jerry) and Tamara Newman Anderson (Mark). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Amber Hughes Purvis (Robby), Craig Mark Anderson Jr. (Kristi), Alicia Anderson Alexis (Patrick), Holly Hughes Mueller (Jimmy), Amanda Bailey, and Jennifer Bailey Bursavich (Nick). RC had 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was an active member of Monroe Street Baptist Church and the Center Masonic Lodge #244. He was a retiree of Crown Zellerbach Box Plant. He enjoyed many activities such as gardening, repairing watches and Sunday dinner with his family.

The Memorial Service will be held at Monroe Street Baptist Church on Monday, Jan. 27. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service to follow at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers will include Jerry Bailey, Mark Anderson, Craig Anderson Jr., Robby Purvis, Jimmy Mueller and Patrick Alexis. Honorary pallbearers will include Bruce Reid, Anthony Reid, Mickey Fortenberry, Jamie Fortenberry, Scooter Fortenberry, Dennis Karrer, Jimmy Newman and Jason Bilbo.

Bro. Larry Lassley and Bro. Chad Jenkins will officiate.
