A 21-year-old Bogalusa man was killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 16 in Washington Parish, according to the Louisiana State Police.

Trooper David Levy said that troopers responded Monday shortly before 1:30 a.m. to a fatal crash involving a single vehicle on Highway 16 eastbound, approximately two miles east of Louisiana Highway 1073. The crash claimed the life of Nathan E. Polk, 21, of Bogalusa.

Levy said that the initial investigation led troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Polk was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Highway 16. For reasons still under investigation, Polk’s vehicle veered left off the roadway and impacted a tree, Levy said.

Polk sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

As part of the ongoing investigation, blood samples were collected for scientific analysis, Levy said. He also noted that Polk was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and impairment is suspected.

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
