Varnado FFA and Agriscience Program has been on a roll this year! After an exciting summer of State Convention and Leadership Camp, VHS students brought what they learned back to the school and their peers. From using the miracle formula for creating speeches to turf grass management and small animal care, our students have taken their education to a new level! After competing at the highest level at the Area IV Forestry Career Development Event, our students went on to participate in the Area IV COLT Conference. The COLT (Chapter Officer Leadership Training) program allows our chapter officers and members to attend workshops and meetings about how to run a local FFA chapter and be a leader among peers. Varnado FFA also attended and was very competitive in our local parish, district, and area Leadership Development Events throughout November and December. Several of our members placed and won and LaDarrick Smith qualified for the State Contest at LSU.

Watching these wonderful students grow from August to December has been awesome. They have become leaders on campus and they represent the best of Varnado. They are examples in behavior, academics, and community service.

Not only has Varnado FFA exceeded expectations in FFA events but also in the classroom. They students worked hard throughout the first semester on all sorts of projects ranging from raising calves, goats, and chickens, to building cabinets and furniture, to increasing vegetative growth rate tomatoes in December using electromagnetism.

We hope to continue to increase our educational opportunities, academic performance, and personal success as we look forward to a new year with 2020.
