Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Mt. Hermon School’s Sikoya Jackson

Mt. Hermon School’s Sikoya Jackson is a two-sport athlete. Jackson, who is a senior, plays basketball and is a track-and-field athlete.
In basketball, Jackson plays both guard positions and she long jumps and triple jumps in track and field.
Jackson has been a second-team all-district player in basketball for the last four years. In track and field, Jackson has made it as far as state in the triple jump.
“She’s extremely dedicated,” Mt. Hermon girls basketball coach Matthew Lea said. “She’s hard working, a great teammate, a great leader and the definition of what you want from a senior of doing things the right way. She’s a good all-around player. She knows how to play the game the right way. She’s a good point guard with her passing, scoring and leadership.”

What do you enjoy most about playing your sports?
I enjoy connecting with my teammates. It gives us more time to get to know each other. It turns us from friends to family, so I love connecting with my teammates.

What do you like best about being a student athlete?
I like that it gives me the opportunity to show that I’m not all about the books, but I’m also an athlete. It also gives me the opportunity to show that I’m not just an athlete, but that I’m a smart student. It shows that I’m more complex than what people would think I am.

Who has been the most influential person in your school sports career? Why?
My mom (Cammie Dillon) because she pushes me to keep going. Even if I’m doing bad or good, she’s going to keep showing me love. I do it for her.
Who is your favorite athlete? Why?
Kyrie Irving because he’s very complex. He can shoot the ball well, he can dribble well and he has his own shoe line. I like entrepreneurship and that he gives back to the community.

Favorite team?
Boston Celtics.

Best thing about living in Washington Parish?
I like that it’s a small community, you get to know more people and they get to know me. I like how we’re so close together that you can feel love and support from people you meet, whether you know them or not.
