Several college football teams with former high school players of Washington Parish Schools have big games coming up on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Six local football players across four schools play for teams that either have playoff games or conference title games on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Southeastern Conference title game features LSU (12-0) against Georgia (11-1) in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game takes place at 3 p.m. on Dec. 7.
LSU has two players from Washington Parish in Franklinton graduate Adrian Magee and Pine graduate Derrick Dillon.
Magee, who is an offensive lineman, has played in every game this season for the Tigers. Magee has been part of an offensive line that has blocked for the SEC’s No. 1 offense.
Dillon, who is a wide receiver, is going to be playing in the East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 18 in St. Petersburg, Fla. This season, Dillon has 11 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Both are redshirt seniors.
Switching to the Sunbelt Conference, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (10-2) is competing for the league title on the road against Appalachian State (11-1) at 11 a.m.
Ragin’ Cajuns redshirt sophomore linebacker Andre Jones, who graduated from Varnado, was one of the team’s players of the week after their Nov. 7 win, 48-7, over Coastal Carolina. This season, Jones has 38 tackles, seven for a loss, with two sacks, a forced fumble, five quarterback hits and a pass breakup.
Switching to the FCS playoffs, Southeastern Louisiana University and Nicholls State University are in the second round.
Southeastern (8-4) takes to the road to face Montana (9-3) at 2 p.m.
SLU won its opening round game over Villanova, 45-44, last week.
The Lions have a pair of local players in redshirt junior and Franklinton graduate Damien Dawson and redshirt freshman and Pine graduate Brendon Kelley.
Dawson is a fullback. He has six caches for 22 yards and a touchdown this year.
Kelley, who is an offensive lineman, has played in two games this season.
Nicholls State (9-4) is heading to North Dakota State (12-0) for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff to take on the back-to-back defending National Champion.
Nicholls State was a 24-6 winner over North Dakota in its first-round game.
The Colonels have one local player in 2015 Franklinton graduate and redshirt junior P.J. Burkhalter.
Burkhalter is the Southland Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year. He has played guard and center this season.
This season, Burkhalter, and the Nicholls State offensive line, blocked for the conference leader in rushing yards, as the Colonels ran for 2,259 yards.
