The Ponemah Wreath Society, of the 40 and 8 Voiture 1360 of Bogalusa, is once again asking for the public’s help to decorate veterans’ plots in Ponemah Cemetery for the Christmas season.

As Christmas approaches for all of our families and friends for this Christmas holiday season, the Ponemah Wreath Society would like to wish all of our communities, friends and veterans a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Ponemah Wreath Society would like for our patriotic friends and families to take a moment of your time and reflect on our deceased service veterans in our veterans’ cemeteries.

Our military veterans bravely served their country at all times and cost; they served so that all of us and our families could enjoy the freedom we have today. Some of our military veterans gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives protecting their country. So our freedom is not free, my friends — it comes with a price.

Our American Legion Post 24 has a military cemetery with 325 U.S. military veterans in it. Our organization — the Ponemah Wreath Society — honors all of these veterans at Christmas time with a Christmas wreath. Our Christmas salute will honor these veterans Friday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m.

The wreaths that are placed are not free. They cost us $20 for the wreath, flag and flag holder.

The Ponemah Wreath Society does this project with the help of our patriotic families, friends and other military veterans.

We have a list of 325 veterans that are buried in our veterans’ cemetery. If you feel you would like to sponsor a deceased veteran, contact one of the following Wreath Society members to honor one: Bobby Latino at 985-516-0055, Donnie Kuhn at 985-516-9927, Mike Henley at 985-515-0184 or Jimmy Burdette at 713-817-5133.

The Wreath Society will also sell Christmas wreaths to the public, if they wish to honor a military veteran in their family cemetery. Our veterans honored us with our freedom. It is now time that we honor them at Christmas.

Thank you, and God bless you and God bless America.
