Rev. John Taylor Lowery, 82, a resident of Pine, died Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 2019, at his home. He was the Outreach Minister at Pine First Baptist Church for many years and loved to share the gospel with those he met. Bro. John dearly loved his church family. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War Era. John loved carpentry and built houses earlier in life, while also doing plumbing and other construction jobs. He even taught carpentry at the Rayburn Correctional Center for several years, using that opportunity to share the gospel with the men he worked with. John enjoyed fishing and finding “treasures” at local thrift stores.

He is survived by: his wife of 33 years, Sue M. Lowery of Pine; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Lowery, and Joe and Angela Lowery, all of Columbia, Miss.; six daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Jimmy Boyd of Columbia, Miss., Elaine and Henry Sumrall, Carla Stevens, all of Foxworth, Miss., Paula Hobgood of Sandy Hook, Miss., Jenny and Reggie Branch of Pine, and Pam and Butch Ledet of Franklinton; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Faye Lowery of Laurinburg, N.C., and Ted and Susie Lowery of Covington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lottie Powell, Linda Sue and Ralph Dixon, all of Baton Rouge; a sister-in-law, Burneva Ellzey of Columbia; and also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lowery; three daughters, Donna Thomas, Ronna Holden, Jayne Seal; his first wife, Evelyn Slay Lowery; parents, Robert James Lowery and Maggie Saphronia Rigney Lowery; brothers, Howard Lowery, Lavern Lowery, Robert Lowery Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Miller.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Pine First Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until noon. A funeral service will be held in the church at noon with the Rev. David Easterling officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
