Mildred Katherine Slocum born in Toxey, Ala., on April 30, 1936, and a resident of Bogalusa, passed away at her residence on Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2019, surrounded by her family at the age of 83.
She is survived by her dear and devoted friend of many years, Melvin Freeman of Bogalusa; by her son, Doug Slocum of Bogalusa; daughters, Carol (Lavon) Carrier of Bogalusa, Rhonda Talley of Bogalusa, Kathy (Charles) Burke of Bogalusa; brothers, David Wells of Bogalusa, and Glenn (Katie) Wells of Denham Springs; and sister, Dianne Strahan of Zachary. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Earl Slocum; daughters, Becky Slocum and Lisa Slocum; brothers, Jerry Wells, Jr. Wells, and Bobby Wells; sisters, Betty Provost and Shirley Mizell; and parents, Fred and Esther Wells.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home, 216 Alabama Ave. in Bogalusa, on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Pounds Cemetery in Bogalusa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 9 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m.
