Buccaneers begin 2019 with a win

Bowling Green School opened the season with a shutout in a 20-0 victory over Cathedral Unit School on the road Friday.
“I thought the defense obviously played really well,” Bowling Green coach Riley Boudreaux said. “They were tough and relentless. Everybody played well on that side of the ball. We had three picks. Offense played better. We’ve got to get to where we get more consistent. Steven Scott had two touchdowns. We were able to run the ball. We were OK, but not to where we want to be yet.”
Bowling Green’s three interceptions came from Matthew Downs, Jace Schexnider and Hunter Wilkinson. Wilkinson made four tackles while Schexnider had three.
Continuing with the defense, Denzel Evans and Jacob Dobraska topped the team defense in tackles with seven each. Evans also broke up a pass.
Cade Morere, Jackson Dobraska and Emmanuel Powell all made five stops while Kengie Gordon tallied four, Ben Hicks posted three and Brayden Edwards, Cameron Brock and Ray all made two stops. Edwards had two pass breakups and Hicks made a sack.
Offensively, Rashaan Duke threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns and added four carries four 12 yards.
Steven Scott Cooper caught six passes for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cooper also had two carries for 9 yards.
Cade Knight made three receptions for 41 yards.
Nathan Jenkins recorded two catches for 12 yards.
Jekorvian Long tallied a reception for 40 yards. Long ran twice for 25 yards.
Wayne Ray was over 100 yards total, as he had one pass for 37 yards and ran 16 times for 84 yards and a touchdown.
Bowling Green is back in action Friday for its home opener against Centreville Academy.
