‘Out of this World’ results seen from library’s Summer Reading Program

“A Universe of Stories,” Washington Parish Library’s Summer Reading Program, is in the books (so to speak) for 2019, and was a definite success parish-wide. Children of all ages attended the professional artist programs, read books, and participated in numerous activities. Prizes were given out this last week during the graduation ceremonies, and each child that read at least 10 books received a certificate for completing the program, free books and coloring books (from a grant through International Paper Foundation), gifts and coupons from local businesses, and treats from the Friends of the Washington Parish Library.

During the summer program, more than 5,000 books were checked out by the children alone. That, along with the excitement of watching children enjoy reading, marked this program a success. Thank you to all of the volunteers and helpers that made this possible — International Paper Foundation, the Washington Parish Reading Council, the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge Decentralized Arts Fund, the various business that donated coupons and items, and also to Mayor Wendy Perette and the Civic League for helping in Bogalusa — just to name a few!

Join the Washington Parish Library next summer for “Imagine Your Story.” Check with your local library for details coming soon.
